Greenback Cutthroat Trout
Upper Mill River is Threatend Once Again! |
|
The South Park Avenue (Running Brook Farm) property has been in the news over the last several weeks. You may recall that the Town of Easton purchased the land anticipating a later purchase by the New England Prayer Center. Their plans called for a modest development of the property. Protect Easton supported the New England Prayer Center proposal.![]() Developer Robert Scinto has recently approached the Town to purchase the property to build a large scale 400-bed nursing home that would occupy almost all of the property. The price offered is staggering. However, as always, when something is too good to be true, it's too good to be true. The Board of Selectman has referred Mr. Scinto's proposal to the Planning and Zoning Commission and P & Z reported to the Selectman that the Town Plan "in its entirety does not preclude exploring a proposal of this nature." We believe the Scinto proposal should have been rejected immediately. A large scale development would forever change the character of Easton, having a major impact on our zoning regulations and potentially open the door for further development in town, require a sewer connection and have a major environmental impact on the Mill River that boarders the property. ![]() Protect Easton as well as the Citizens for Easton is strongly opposed that the land be used for a nursing home and hopes that the New England Prayer Center will move forward with their commitment to purchase the property. If that does not occur, the Town should use the property in accordance with our existing zoning regulations. We welcome your comments and hope you will join us in opposition to this threat to our community. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. (text from Protect Easton) |
